RESULTS OF FLASH FICTION COLLABORATION NIGHT
Summer Rental
The banging in the attic went on for days. Finally, grasping my lantern, I crept up the stairs determined to discover the origin of the sound. The closer I got, the louder the banging. Just as I reached the door, it flew open. Before my eyes, a frenzy of crows pecked at a manuscript on the antique desk. I shooed them by flapping my shawl. Even after they flew through the broken window, I could hear their angry squawking.
I glanced at the manuscript and shuddered. It was the “Birds” by Alfred Hitchcock.
Downstairs, a scream echoed from the bathroom.

I was the last person left in my neighborhood
Bio hazard suited workers was the only activity. Lawsuits had been filed. Evictions had been posted. Escorted from my home I was last to leave and first to die.

Haze
The mysterious haze came the same day all communications were cut. It rolled from the mountains, chilling the valleys below. The dead turned in their graves, sending the church bells into a mad sycophancy. The villagers shuddered and pulled their coats around them. The cries of children at play ceased. All attention turned to the soldier at the gate.
Frost slicked back his hair. Diamond ice clung to his armor, gleaming in the sun. The mist clung to his ankles but shied away from the city. Blue glass coated his lips, his teeth chattering. His blood shot eyes stared feverishly. “Run.”

Seeing My Future Past
In that twilight moment between consciousness & sleep, I saw the characters come to life.
There was an odd familiarity to the two pictures hanging on the bedroom wall. The beautiful woman dressed in hoop skirts approached the young Confederate soldier. Tonight he stands alone by the empty chair. His face looks so sad and yet it almost beckons me to join him. I must put a name to those haunting faces. I’m too sleepy for now, but wait,….now a woman sits in the chair! She looks alot like me.
I won’t hang pictures of anything on my walls now.

I was afraid to go to sleep
It was a stormy night. A girl screamed! I awoke to the lights of the street…then all went dark. I was afraid to go to sleep. I heard a thump. It continued thump, thump, thump. My heart pounded to the beat, thump, thump, thump. I tiptoed out of my room. I peered between the banisters. Creeping down the steps I heard thump, thump, thump. Was it someone at the door? Seizing all my courage, I twisted the knob. To my dismay a familiar face sang, “Avon Calling!”
